A few months back rumors were that Valve (an American video game development corporation) were looking to bring their very popular online gaming platform Steam to Linux platforms. The idea was welcomed by many Linux communities and user (including myself). We call all agree that Linux does need some attention to the gaming side and the idea of bringing Steam to Linux looked to be a bright step toward gaming on Linux.

After a few months of rumors, talks, and big hopes Valve took a step in breaking many penguin hearts by crushing the rumor by saying: It ain't gonna happen folks.

Via a GameIndustry.biz interview, Valve Marketing VP Doug Lombardi stated, "There's no Linux version that we're working on right now."

Steam has over 1,000 games available on it and according to Valve there are about 25 million active user accounts. Steam would have been welcomed on Linux if it would have happened. So, for now Linux users will have to do with wine or go for some open source games because Steam is not coming to Linux (at least not in the near future.)
